If both units are from the same manufacturer, and both ORIGINALLY came with the same version of software, then YES, that should work.
You didn't mention what the original version of the 14 hour software is, but if it was (and is) less than 1.2 (the original version of the 30 hour) placing it into the 30 hour unit will trigger the 'moron' clause (See the Hack FAQ if you don't know what this means.)
Basically, you don't want to put any version of software into a machine that is older than what was originally delivered with the unit.
And you NEVER want to put in any version of software that came from a unit from a different manufacturer. (Sony VS Philips)
