Fighter jets escorting plane over London

Did anyone else see a passenger plane flying low over London about 13:00 today with two jet fighters flying either side of it?!

no but i heard a *very* low level set of jet engines doing more than the normal manoeuvering over Tower Hill around 6am. couldn't see a lot due to cloud but i don't think this was the normal "coming up the river" approach.

you back down here???

Yes Gary I saw this around Lloyds' of London at about the time you said. Two of us in the office saw it - I'm glad someone else did - was beginning to think I'd gone mad.

There's a posting on uk.local.london too. I've been listening to the radio on and off this afternoon (LBC, LBC News and BBC London) but there have been no reports...

"Coastal Command" ceremonial fly-past.

Probably Nimrod from RAF Kinloss, accompanied by two Tornados from RAF Marham.

Nimrod is a marine reconnaissance rather than a passenger jet, although the air-frame is based on the ill-fated civilian Comet.

Up for meeting any fellow TiVo people for beer (go home to Leeds though Fri night till Sun evening - London city centre is dead at the weekends!).

Yes my flat is on the Minories - well remembered!

actually it's me that's back in America Square... remembered you being not far from there though.

I work till 8pm so it'll have to be a day off (after 12 hours all I want to do is sleep), will see what i'm doing next week but if others want to start thinking about it i'm off wed & thu.

the city aint dead at weekends, you just don't know where to look - there must be at least 10 operators that i know of working weekends. when we all go out to look for food at the same time it can look quite busy

stuart

Would also love to meet up with fellow TiVo people. Am currently sitting in snowy NY, but will be back in Blighty next week. Wed or Thu look OK at the moment, but I won't know definitively until next week.
