I've had good luck with Imation DVD-R media.
I bought a spindle of 25 at Staples in Jan 04' for about $35.00.
They were on sale at the time, but I think it recurs from time to time.
I didn't like the Verbatim movie reel style. Pricey, the hokey graphics
show through my labels, and the discs are a B**ch to get out of the box.

I get my media from www.shop4tech.com bulk 4.7 -RW .78 cents for a 100 spindle

I've also been using the Meritline white DVD-RW, had a few duds but overall they work great! Since they are RW you can use them over and over again.

[/You should beware of using paper labels on DVD's. It may shorten the life of the DVD, and may come off down the road inside your player and ruin it. It may even affect playback down the road, depending on the adhesive used on the paper (that's more CD's though).]

I'm using the CD Stomper labels and it's been one of the joys
in owning the Pioneer churning out cool looking discs. Any better
product or technique for labeling the DVDs rather than just markers?

I use CompUsa's own brand DVD-R and have had absolutely no problems. It turns out to be less than $1 each.

I print the label directly on the DVD using my Epson Photo 900, it has a CD-Tray for printing to DVD's or CD's.
looks very cool.

Answered my own question. According to the Fine Manual

The Recorder is compatible with DVD-RW Ver. 1.1 and Ver. 1.1/2x, and DVD-R Ver. 2.0
and Ver. 2.0/4x.

Personally, I've not had any trouble with any brand... even the "cheap" stuff that Fry's sells. Though my personal preference is and has been Memorex, even back in the "old days" of casette tapes.

Verbatim for me has been a poor choice when it came to floppies, but their DVD and CD media is fine.

oh only cause someone else on this board recommended the leda. It was the first "bulk" DVD purchase I made. I THINK the optodisk were the ones I bought a while ago that did not work. (I bought some printable disks and I THINK they were optodisk but don't quote me). In the end the Leda just works for me.

P.S. I have since used Compusa 2X branded disks and another "name brand" that escapes me now. All without problems. Also I put my name on the dealmac.com (or dealnews.com) list for optical media. They send me an e-mail a day with all of the deals on DVD-R. The one I set up looks like this:

Category: computer hardware : supplies : storage media : DVD-R/W media (articles only on dealmac)

I get at least one "deal" per day sent to my mailbox!

I have had not such good luck with the Verbatim Movie reel -Rs (40% coasters) and not much better with the Memorex -R 4X blanks (33% coasters) on my Apple G5 with a Sony U10 Superdrive burner.
