Peanut remote only works in mouth!

Huh? I have a modified peanut remote with the remote extender RF unit installed in it (to control the TiVo from various rooms). There was a thread around here on how to do this, but I couldn't find it with search.

Anyway, this thing "generally" works great. But there are some days where it's just grumpy and I have to point the thing upside down, sideways, or whatever to get it to work. Some days even that doesn't work and I have to resort to pointing the thing in my mouth! This works flawlessly EVERY time I point the thing into my mouth. This is no joke... well its funny, sure, but it's the absolute truth. The only explaination I can come up with is that somehow the RF waves are bouncing off my fillings or something.

Weird, huh?

Sam

Does this happen when you're in the same room with the unit? If so my guess is that the IR being put out by the RF base station is conflicting with the IR being put out by the remote itself. Pointing the remote into your mouth is doing nothing more then blocking the real IR and allowing the RF base station to control the TiVo instead.

To fix this you can do one of two things...

1) Cover the IR transmitter on the remote itself with black electrical tape and allow the RF transmitter to always control the TiVo.

2) Connect the RF base station to a X-10 on/off switch and turn it off anytime you're in the same room as the actual TiVo.

You say that this remote has been converted to RF? By pointing the remote at your body your body becomes a giant antenna for the remote control.

To test this theory the next time your keyless entry for your car won't work because you are not quite close enough to your car hold the remote next to your head and try it again.

If you are referring to the BlueDo unit, it eats those little "N" cell batteries. When the control of my DSR6000 in another room gets sluggish I just replace the battery. When that battery gets low the remote acts the same way. I have to orient it just right to get it to work.

This will also work with Remotes for Cars....Its cool to come out of mall and see your car a football field away and do that and make alarm go off....Been doing that for years....

I forget the brand name of this thing. I think it's Leap Frog?? It does take the N batteries. It's been sluggish at times since day one. I replaced the battery once with no change. The receiver unit has an LED that just sits there and kind of pulses all the time, so my guess is there is lots of interference.

When I'm in the same room with the TiVo I almost always put my hand over the IR transmitter. It does seem that a combo of IR and RF confuses the thing.

I have to ask, what led you to try putting it in your mouth?

Well that's just a silly question.

It is, after all, a peanut.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
