Talking New TIVO's at Walmart $100.00

Just bought two 20 hour tivo's at $125.00 ea. and a 14 hour unit for $100.00 new in sealed boxes. Would like to backup and add second drive to each tivo. Should I get the 2.xx upgrade first? Any tips along with the FAQ's

Thanks
Mike

I'll answer your question as soon as I get back from Wal-Mart . . .

In our local WalMart today the 20 hour TiVo was priced at $279.00.

Were they on clearance? Let them upgrade to 2.0.1 first, without connecting any video source. Potentially small backup image, but not guaranteed.

I just checked 5 Walmarts within a 25 mile radius of my house and 3 said they don't carry the Tivo, 1 said they sold the last 14hr $99 unit earlier today and the last said all they carry is the DirectTivo model. I guess I was too late.

Just a heads-up to anyone in the Las Vegas area. Don't bother calling around, because the ones that know what I'm talking about still have it for $269-299 for a 20-hr unit (and in one case a 14-hr unit). Half the stores either don't carry them, or don't know that they carry them. If you want to look for a clearance 14-hr unit, I suggest you actually go there and look yourself.

I called the Wal-Mart down the street from my office, and they said the same thing. However, when I drove down there, they had at least 8 of them on the shelf. Still at $299, though.

Cool

The pawn shop next to Wal-Mart has them for $45. Slightly scratched, but only $45.

Follow up to orginal post.

I may have been extra lucky to find the three, actually there were four, two 14's and two 20's. The Walmart for those in the Tampa area is in Pinellas Park on Hwy 19 near Bill Jackson, the last 14hr unit might still be there.

When I went back for the second 20hr it was still marked at $269.00 so I had my receipt for the first one and when the cluck scanned the barcode it came up $125.00. For what it's worth here is the info from my receipt.

Wal Mart Ph 727-546-9100 ST# 1390

"TIVO 20HR 003784989733 125.00 A"

I am keeping all three BTW.

LOL, here at our Walmart they want $268, hello, for a 14hr unit. Where did the $100 markdown go?

I checked a couple of stores in the SF bay area, they all want $269 for a 20 Hr model. Best Buy has them on sale at $179. Not as good as $125, but I paid $269 for my 14 Hr.

Based on Mike's experience, I wonder if they wouldn't ring up as $100-$125, even if they're marked higher. Actually going to a store and asking a clerk to scan the box might be worthwhile.

I would, but I'm a lazyass.

The price scanned is whatever is in the Wal*Mart database. If the scan came up $125 in one location it may in all as the database is national. The clerk at the register never checks the price sticker if the scan works anyway. So, it does'nt matter how it is marked just how it scans. Get a clean box that will scan well and you may be GOLDEN.

well, in Seattle, it's still $269, even after a physical scan.

Would be nice to get a scanned/faxed reciept showing this discounted price.

Cool

Well the lazy WallyMart employee wouldn't take his precious time (there were no customers but myself) to scan and make sure that the price wasn't marked down (the tag on the shelf said $269.00 for the 20hr). So I discretely peeled the UPC sticker from the side of one box and went around the corner and found one of the "scan it yourself" UPC scanners in housewares. Unfortunately, it scanned as $269.00.

You were one lucky Jamoke!!

BTW -- I first went to a Super WalMart (one HUGE store full of JUNK!!) and they had no TiVos. In fact, the employee there said they were no longer selling them. I wonder if Super WM's are getting rid of TiVo (they DID have one of those cr@ppy M$ units!) and the regular WM's are still selling them?!

Did you find those at a Super WM or a regular WM?

Yeah, the price I gave was from an actual scan. "Donna," the person I talked with, said each store controls how much they mark down stuff. She said that with out permission from headquarters they could only take 10% off at a time. The funny thing is that she said she could price match to other stores like Target, but not other Wal-Marts.

I wish she would of let me get it for $99, the one they had was in a messed up box with an inch of dust on it.
