Question Backup File is WAY too big on SA

I've used the Boot CD to backup/restore plenty of DirectTiVos (and even used TiVoMad utilities without a problem.)

I just got a Standalone and am trying to back so I can restore to larger drives. I ran through Guided Setup, then connected up the drive to my PC to backup. It fails during the backup.

When I tried to back up, it gave me the following messages:

Source Drive size is 30 hours
Backup image will be 30 hours
Uncompressed Backup size: 6581 Megabytes
Backing up xxxx of 6581 (xx%)

It then continued until it failed...when looking, it filled up my "C" drive which was only 1GB.

I then created a 5GB FAT32 partition and did the same thing.... It still failed...once it hit the 2GB filesize limit.

What am I doing wrong? I know with my DirectTiVos, the uncompressed size was somewhere in the 1000 range, not 6000 range.

There are often demo materials and Quality Assurance streams left on these units. Some of this is purged subsequent to software upgrade. IF not wanting to wait, your best bet is to include -l64 (lower case L) in your backup command.

mfstool backup -l64 -6so /mnt/dos... etc etc

This will filter out the unwated streams and wil give you a much smaller backup.
