Arrow help with TiVoMad -- CRC error

Am trying to use the excellent TiVoMad to copy to, and make ready my new Maxtor 80GB drive. Keep running into problems with the TiVoMad boot disk. Since no one lese seems to be having the same problem, I figure it must be something I’m doing.

The error I’m getting is:

Floppy0 data CRC error track 45 head 1 sector 14 size 2

This error follows the line:

RAMDISK compressed image found at block 495

I’m very new to Linux, but from the message figured that maybe the floppy I was using was bad so I tried another one, and re-fromated it – still no work. Then, I figured that maybe the floppy drive was bad, so I replaced that and reformatted another floppy with the new floppy dirve – still the same error in the same place.

Could the problem be related to the PC I’m using? I searched in Google and found some references to bad DMA chips or bad memory. This doesn’t seem likely since this machine seems to work fine in Windows, but at this point I’m willing to try anything.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I'd get a different copy of the TivOmad utility and see if that helps.

Also, use another floppy. The one you have is bad.

It's not the floppy or the floppy dirve, I tested both.

Question

Do you have access to a CD burner? If so, you could use the Tivo Utility Boot CD-ROM, which is a linux boot CD with TivoMad & Dylan's disk support. The other advantage of the CDROM is it allows you to enable the DMA for copys (dd's), which will greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to copy the hard drives.
