Question Lifetime subscription on best buy warranty

I currently have a 30 hour sa sony. I have also subscribed to the monthly service instead of the lifetime for fear that if my tivo dies, I will be screwed. I purchased my tivo from best buy and opted for their 4yr extended warranty. My question is: "If I were to switch to the lifetime subscription and my tivo were to die, would the lifetime subscription transfer over to the new unit?" I believe that the lifetime subscription is only for the life of the unit, but does that apply even with an extended warrenty (like in my situation)?

This has come up before. TiVo's wording is, "If you repair, replace or upgrade the storage capacity of this recorder through a manufacturer or TiVo authorized program, the lifetime subscription will still be active."

This doesn't specifically address extended warrantees, though. It would probably be worth a call to TiVo Customer Care (perhaps several times) to see what their take on it is.

Actually it has been confirmed here in the past that if it is replaced under an extended warranty, then the lifetime does transfer.

I just got my TIVO and also went with the monthly plan. Within a year or so I'm sure they'll be something better and I'll just move on.......

stevel,

I've heard that here too, but don't know where it's documented. I'd like to have it handy since I got the 5 year CC warranty on my DSR6000.

Any pointers to where it can be found in the TiVo manuals/web site?

I have a Best Buy extended warranty and have had to transfer my lifetime service over when my modem died. It worked just fine and TiVo customer support was more than happy to transfer the service over to the new box when I told them that I had to exchange my box for a new one. It's worth it in my opinion because instead of having to wait for repair, I just went to Best Buy, got a new box, and hooked it up. In fact, if my TiVo dies again I'll probably get a Series 2 if they aren't selling series 1's anymore.

I've twice had to transfer Lifetime Service after having a Tivo replaced under extended warranty (in my case, Circuit City). No hassles, the Tivo reps didn't even question it. Smooth as silk. Give them the old Serial Number, give them the new serial number, done within minutes.

In the case of TiVo, the extended warranty is well worth it.
