Tivo series 1 w/o phoneline

Is there any way for me to upgrade my SVR-2000 tivo to download data without using a phoneline?

I just moved to a new apartment and my local phone company, SBC, is angering me. It's been 3 weeks and I still have no phone. And the only reason I need a land line is for the Tivo.

If this is possible, I know that it may involve extensive software and hardware upgrades and additions. But I am willing to try anything. I really hate SBC and I don't want to get a phone line if not neccessary.

Any help would be much appreciated!!! thanks
btw, i did a search for previous threads on this, but couldn't find anything. if you know of one, please refer me.

Yes - you can install a TurboNet network card and connect to your broadbanc connection, if you have one. See www.9thtee.com

If you plan to/have added hard drive space, I would consider the CacheCard instead (also at 9thtee). It functions as a TurboNet without adding memory, and speeds up menus if you need it later (by adding memory). It is $30 more upfront, plus memory down the road.

You could also connect it to your computer and have it share broadband.

Look in the Underground forum.

Which is called serial PPP. You do little to nothing on the Tivo, but do a number of things on your PC.

Why do you keep rewinding that? Because with TiVo, I can.

only down side with ppp over serial is you need to keep your computer on 24/7(if you don't already) but you don't need to buy much/anything to set it up. TurboNet/CacheCard are nice if you are going to be doing a lot of other hacking.

Leaving you PC on overnight once every 2 weeks should be sufficient to allow updates
