most iTunes songs are missing from HMO

I've just installed HMO. (Actually reinstalled, as I was a beta tester.)

My problem is that most of my iTunes songs (regular MP3s), do not appear on any of the playlists. I've tried to create additional playlists for the missing songs, for example creating a new playlist called, "brucetest" for many of my Springsteen songs, but then the entire playlist does not appear.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

LM

You're surre that (a) they're regular MP3s and (b) that you're not using the "publish only these playlists" feature in the Mac TiVo Desktop?

What happens if you add one of these songs to a playlist the TiVo does see?

Thanks for the response

1. I have published all my playlists. And, yes, they are all MP3s. After my first post, I transferred many of them to a PC and they all appeared and played fine on HMO. (This is an acceptable workaround at our house.)

2. I'm not home now, so I can't change the playlists, but I don't think it would matter on the Mac because some of the songs do appear on one of the playlists. I can see no reason why some of the songs appear and some don't.

Very weird. I can think of a few other things to check:

- are the songs that don't work actually in the iTunes music library folder (usually ~/Music/iTunes/) or a child of that folder? I vaguely remember something about files that iTunes didn't place in its library folder but just adding to its database indexes doing this. If this is the case, and you've got the drive space, you can use the "Consolidate Library" option to copy everything into the library folder.

- If you look at one of these files in the Finder, do they look like the MP3 files that do work (icons and the like?) I'm wondering if there's some holdover type/creator codes in the file system that are identifing them as something other than iTunes MP3s.

If you figure it out, I'm a little curious to know what the solution is...
