connecting tivo and digital cable pvr

Does anyone know how to connect a tivo and a digital cable box with a pvr. It's hooked up, but the problem is when something is being recorded on the Tivo you can't watch something from the cable box PVR.
Thanks,
Frank

Frank...

You use "PVR" and "Tivo" as if they are two different items, so you sort of confuse me as to what you are trying to do. I will tell you what I have and see if that's what you are trying to do...

I have a PVR (Personal Video Recoder) that I'll refer to as "TiVo" and I have a cable box. I don't have a combination cable box/TiVo.

I have the cable box wired into my TiVo and the output going to my TV Video and the Audio going to my Home Stereo. I can record a program on the TiVo while I watch a program already recorded on the TiVo or If I came in late on the program I am recording, I can start watching it from the beginning, skipping the commercials and pausing it for needed breaks, but it keeps recording it.

I can't watch a different program that I am recording (this requires two tuners); only a program that has be previously recorded on my TiVo.

Hope that answers your questions, or helps clarify the misunderstanding that I have read... Please feel free to reply to this if I have confused you more or you have other questions, thats why it's here!!!

Jack

Jack,
This is a new product. It's a digital cable box with a hard drive pvr built in. They offer it for under $7 a month and it has two tuners, so you can record two things at once. As I mentioned, because the tivo feeds off the cable box, if something is being recorded on the tivo, you can't play something off the cable box pvr because the tivo will pick that up.
So I'm clueless how to record onto the tivo and play something off the cable box pvr at the same time.

Thanks,
Frank

If you are using the cable box to record something on the SA TiVo then what you want to do is not possible. I suspect that like the dual tuner TiVos the dual tuner cable box PVR also has only one MPEG decoder and thus can't output more than one stream. What you can do is record something on the TiVo and watch something recorded on the TiVo or record on the cable box PVR and watch a previous TiVo recording.
