Patches

Changes have been flying so fast I haven't able to keep up. If everyone can send my the patches or you hacked code, I'll get them commit into CVS.

You can send them to me at slj+tivocom@monsters.org.

Unhappy

Ok, I can't find ANY doc on how to get the beacon.pl to run. It just complains that I don't have some base package:

Base class package "Net::Server::PreFork" is empty.
(Perhaps you need to 'use' the module which defines that package first.) at ./beacon.pl line 7
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./beacon.pl line 7.

Can someone point me to where I download the required package? I am running version '5.005_03' of Perl

Thanks,

Keith

kcantrel,

Yes, beacon.pl does depend on Net::Server::PreFork. You can install it out of cpan. If you have never used cpan before, just do the following.

as root type:
perl -MCPAN -e shell

If it asks you if you want to configure cpan now, just say no.
When that's done with, you should see a shell prompt that looks like
cpan>

Type install Net::Server::PreFork

Let it do its thing, and you should be all set. Just type exit when you're done and try beacon.pl again. btw, what distribution are you running? I can try packaging up the module if that would help. Good Luck!

Huh? That's what 'bash' said in a different way when I tried to execute 'cpan ...' (i.e. I don't have a cpan command ;-)

I was able to go to cpan.org and download the required module (thanks for telling me where to get it). So now the music works (which, fortunately, was the main thing I wanted), but pictures are black. I haven't had the time to try and get any of the cool streaming things to work.

I do have 1 request, could someone please put #include <signal.h> in command.c. My version of RedHat (7.2) apparently doesn't include it automatically through some other header like apparently which ever version of Linux you have does.

Thanks,

Keith

P.S. Are the people at TiVo concerned that you were able to cause the TiVo box to panic by giving bad data via the HMO feature? I realize it is impossible to check all error conditions, and byRequest is not supported, but I still consider this a BAD bug.

Woops, I meant

perl -MCPAN -e shell

my bad. I'm glad you got it working.
