I'm sure these companies increase revenues after these shows, but seeing Amer Chopper (AC) and Amer Hot Rod (AHR) make me feel that I wouldn't purchase anything from either company. And I feel real sad for those people on MTV's "Pimp My Ride". I wonder how long those customizations stay presentable.

As for AC shop standards, if the shop all of a sudden stayed clean, then we'd only have the self-imposed impossible schedule to keep tension.

And why do both of these shows always have such close/un-meetable deadlines when it's the shop that ultimately determines the deadline -- if the customer wants it but the shop cant make the deadline, then dont take the work.

I do watch AC much more than AHR. Boyd just seems like a douche.

It has been fun watching the change in lifestyle of Paulie and Paul Sr. First they have a regular shop, regular motor home, regular cars. Now they have Flow Jets, a new bigger shop, a big new winnie (and Paul and Paul are never on it anymore, they fly), Hummers, Harleys, etc.

If Boyd has control over what is shown, then he is even dumber than he comes across. His cars definately are good, but why do these people work for him? With the Teutel's, they feel like a family, so they want to put the time in. But with Boyd, it seems like he just expects them to work weekends and give up whatever they are doing.

I've wondered this too. My guess is one of a few scenarios,

Discovery channel sets a deadline so they can get shows edited and done in a timely manner

They are going to a bike show and want to show off a new bike

The customer wants a new bike for a specific event (which has happened) and they agree

They have setup a "bike unveiling" party or something of the sort like with the Helicopter themed bike which they plan ahead of time

But those are mostly guesses. As for not buying bikes from them, I dunno I'm sure all shops have their problems. I did call west coast choppers and OCC just to see what there range was. OCC 30+k, West Coast, in the hundreds of thousands.

If you go to OCC's website, they list standard bikes with sale prices (when I went, they were 40-60K) and their theme bikes I know they mentioned as being in the hundreds of thousands as well.

I think they want a new bike for each show that they do. It seems to be their goal to keep putting out new bikes and pushing the envalope with ideas.

I loved last night's show. They are behind schedule so the dumb as new guy sends mikey home. Yes, cutting down the labor force, that should help me get back on schedule. I have forgotten more about how to manage than that chucklehead will ever know.

On the subject of the bike. Seems odd that they did not know the pushrods were too long. I would think there are specs somewhere? I don't know about these guys, but the first thing I do when I assemble anything is check to see that I have the right size and right number of each part before I start. Easier to find parts when they're not already attached than later on.

Definetly one of the better shows that isn't on any of the "Big Networks". In fact, I think being on Discovery is a major plus!

Oh, I agree 100% about the guys cleaning up after themselves. Every mechanic I know is as much a stickler about cleaning up as Paul Sr.

I suppose the thing that really bugged me about the whole scenario was Paulie's attitude. Let's face it, Vinnie is his right-hand man and the shop's Go To Guy. Vinnie is always willing to put in overtime and go the extra mile to make sure the bikes get done on time. It bothered me to see Paulie just ignoring the whole exchange between Paul Sr. and Vinnie when he could have just went to his dad and said, "Hey, how about we hire somebody to come in to help keep the shop tidy?"

Paulie knew Vinnie's situation with the baby coming and knew his boy couldn't afford to lose a day's pay. And you can't tell me that Paulie can't afford to pay a high school kid out of his own pocket when he's tooling around in a brand new Prowler and showing off his new Rolex.

Well, he showed up for work on time after his forced vacation. Can't find fault with the results, the bike did get done even if it didn't start.

What I don't get is why Paul Sr. screams about the shop being clean, and then they work on keeping it clean, and then wonder why their deadlines are so tight! Just hire someone (like Boyd does) to keep the shop clean. It would certainly help!

Is it just me...

... or does the new guy remind you of the obnoxious older brother, Chet (played by Bill Paxton), from the 80's movie Weird Science?

Every time he comes onto screen, it's all I can think of ("you're stewed, buttwad!").

Using the mental floss to clean out the excess crap in my head, I do remember that he has the same kind of buzz cut that Bill paxton did in weird science.

Of course, most of my memories of WS involve Kelly LeBrock in various states of undress so.....
