HMO desktop help

After using the tivo desktop for a couple days, I decided to give javaHMO a shot. Well I have decided to not use the javaHMO, but when it was installed it disabled the tivo beacon? Now the tivo desktop can't connect to tivo. I tried reinstalling, but still no luck. Anyone know the solution?

Well first off what OS are you using?

Assuming you are using Windows XP, I can help you.

If you are familiar with services there is a very simple way.

1. Open the services control panel by clicking Start->Control Panel and then double clicking "Administrative Tools" and finally double clicking services.

2. Find the javahmo service and click on it and choose stop from the top left corner. To stop javahmo from running when windows starts, double click and choose manual or disabled under startup type and then click ok

3. Find the TiVo Beacon service and click on it and choose start from the top left corner. To make the beacon run every time windows start double click and choose automatic under startup type and click ok.

4. Run the Tivo Desktop software and choose to start the server. If this doesn't work then go to the steps below.

If you aren't comfortable doing the above or you can't get it to work you can do the following instead:

1. First off either uninstall javahmo using the add/remove control panel or change to javahmo's bin directory (usually at c:\program files\javahmo\bin\) and execute the uninstall.bat file.

2. Second, assuming you still having Tivo Desktop installed, change to the TiVo Desktop directory (usually c:\program files\TiVo\Desktop) and open a command prompt and type "TiVoBeacon.exe /install"

If this doesn't fix your problem, then uninstall the TiVo Desktop software, reboot and then install it again.

Hope this helps.
