Who cares what the NC-17 rating means. We should all be asking why it even exists!

The ratings system should be more like they have on TV. Let parents know if there's:

a) few swear words
b) a lot of swear words
c) little violence
d) a lot of violence
e) little nudity
f) a lot of nudity
g) sex, sex, and more sex...

There is no XXX, or XX. XXX is just a marketing term porn companies made up.

It already is like this.
The MPAA now puts qualifiers on all its ratings. The ratings now say things like "rated R for strong pervasive language, drug use, and some sexual content".

Voluntary my arse.

Yah, you don't need to apply for a rating, unless you want to try to not have your producer's and studio lose a boatload of money.

Looking at other countries Whale Rider ratings, if i'm reading them right, we had the harshest restrictions in the world on Whale Rider.

The MPAA screwed up on NC-17 (like most things).

A lot of newspapers won't show the ads, a lot of theaters won't carry the movies, and Blockbuster won't rent the tapes, so how is it any better than X?

The substance reference? When Puss-in-boots is shown in the "knights" commercial that spoofed cops, they pull some cat-nip off of him and he claims that it wasn't his.

Hmmm... I didn't not know cat-nip was an illegal controlled substance.

The closest analogy I can think of is if the cops found a Herseys bar on a teenager.

If you liken cat-nip to marijuana and the way it was portrayed by the movie then it could look like a controlled substance maybe? It's sad that such a funny analogy has to be pointed out as something negative.
