UUgh!! Changing Channels w/ Motorola DCT1700

It may be a long shot, but I thought I'd post this to see if there exists any advice.....

I recently dropped DirecTV and integrated tivo to revert back to digital cable (don't ask me why - it wasn't my choice).

My cable company, Service Electric - serving NW New Jersey, is attempting to come out of the dark ages and is now offering digital cable.

The problem is that they are providing us with a cable modem that does not allow you to wire directly to the SA tivo unit. I have to tape these led signalers out in front of the modem's 'lcd eye' and more often than not, the tivo signal fails to be read by the modem box so the channel does not change.

Coming from the integrated tuner, this is all so primitive and frustrating. I've moved these 'transmitting thingers' around a few times, but I'm unable to find the 'sweet spot' which would change the channel properly everytime.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks very much,
SB

Have you read this thread, Cable/Satellite Box Compatibility & Codes List, or search for threads on building an "IR Fort"?

Have you tried using the medium or slow setting for the same box? I did not like having to do this, but since I moved my setting to medium, the IR changes the channel consistently every time.
