The website formerlly known as tivosucks.com

Check out http://www.tivosucks.com

This moron also posted this message to the usenet group:

I bought a Tivo just over 18 months ago with the lifefime service. It
recently died. I bought a new box directly from Tivo. After it arrived I
called to change the activation code from the old to the new box. NO WAY!
They absolutely will not do it. I had no choice but to send the box back to
them. I am now very happy with my new REPLAYTV. It is a far better product
anyway. The automatic commercial skip alone is worth the price. Check it out
at replaytv.com. Also, check out my new web site at tivosucks.com. I am
really upset and intend to take this to class action status when I get 1,000
people to join me. (I will pay all the legal expenses.)

What a dumbass.

"(I will pay all the legal expenses.)"

Oh, how generous. Every TiVo owner (we'll all be included in a class-action like that, I'm sure) will get a nickel, and he will get $5 million for 'bringing the class' and all the lawyers will make out like bandits. Class-actions are the stupidest idea I've ever seen.

By the by, why on earth did TiVo not register tivosucks.com? I mean, that's SOP for companies that care about their image, or so I thought.

I'm not sure if I agree with the class action lawsuit but if my Tivo that I purchased in August died and I bought a lifetime sub and Tivo refused to transfer the lifetime sub to my new box I would be plenty mad too. Now if the system was three years old that would be a different story. What the guy does not point out is what steps he took when trying to resolve this issue with Tivo. If you send the unit off for repair or replacement won't Tivo do the ID switch then? The guy probably just wanted to have a new box with an old sub. I would probably buy another box, hack it, and put my old number in the working unit. But that's just me.

No, that's SOP for companies that want to stifle criticism. TiVo isn't heavy-handed like that.

The above is not a recognition of any kind of legitimacy of the complaint.

That’s the opinion of one man alone. Just on a recent poll in this forum most people decided they wouldn’t even pay a slight increase to the monthly fee-that its just not worth paying extra when you could just do the same with your Fast-Forward button. This is opposed to $4,000 for the unit (he claims commercial skip is worth this price) as well as legal expenses! This is just work of a patriotic ReplayTV fan not an unhappy TiVo fan.

True indeed. For the record, I don't think TiVo CS has ever done anyone wrong--from EVERYTHING I've heard, they're very friendly and reasonable. I just wonder what happened to this guy.

What a dumbass.

I'm curious to know what this guy's motives are. Tivo is very clear on the Lifetime Sub policy. If your Tivo with lifetime sub dies, you send it to an authorized repair center, they either fix it or give you another box and a new lifetime sub. They make it very clear that you can't transfer across boxes, and that it is for the lifetime of the BOX, not YOUR lifetime.

Looks like FUD to me, but I can't figure out how this would be involved.....

Well, the email address on the web page doesn't work. I tried emailing him something and it bounced back.

So again, I say, what a dumbass.

Now this is a surprise. The guy is the president of a corporation. While Gary here is misguided, gotta admire his drive. Not the way I would have handled but, he likes to make noise.

He feels he was pushed around by a corporation (TiVo) and now he is doing something about it. I really do type in xyzcompanysucks.com before buying most things. Also type in every disparaging remark about a company into search engines as preliminary research just to hear all dissent..baseless as it may be.

Actually, we don't know that. All he says is that TiVo won't transfer his Lifetime sub to another machine. A policy that's clearly stated. His web page only has the the link to Replay and mailto link that apparently doesn't work.

Sure he's president of a printing company but it belongs to his parents. So he may or may not have gotten the job on his own merits.

He may simply have too much time on his hands or perhaps the printing and advertising business has taken a nose dive....

He hates TiVo cause his company is failing? Obviously he feels mistreated. As I said he is misguided.

I'm speculating at this point, but maybe he figures on getting a capital infusion by:

a) the class action suit or threat of one and hopes that TiVo will give him nusience money?

b) selling the domain name to TiVo.

(Shrug)

So he may be the Mr. Carlson of the printing industry?

(I remember some annoying poster in a newsgroup who kept threatening legal action if anyone dared post his whois information.)

You can't sue people for what they say on discussion board. At least that is what I learned from watching Boston Public last night. Seriously, a company did sue some posters from f***ked company.com and had to use their screen names in the brief ....pretty funny.

Read something like " SH**face and Farthead did knowingly slander xyz company...."

This situation is just one of the more extreme reactions to an ongoing Tivo problem. The warranty is ridiculously short. The record time is too short and upgrading voids what little warranty there is. The lifetime subscription isn't as good as it sounds since the lifetime can be quite short.

So some percentage of customers are gonna hit these problems and a subset of these will be upset.
