Smile Anybody playing catch up with their recordings?

I'm constantly trying to catch up with my recordings, so they won't delete (due to lack of space for new recordings) without me seeing them.

Anybody else with this problem?

I consistantly have about 50 hrs worth of unwatched recordings on my TiVo at all times. I think it would be impossible for me to catch up. Every day atleast 4 - 6 hours is being recorded, so I am doing good just to watch that the next day. If you have a space problem, I would definitely think about upgrading your hard drive. I've got about 120 hours I can record at medium quality and dont know what I would do if I only had half that amount.

I'm trying to catch up, but not so things don't get deleted (I have plenty of space since the drive upgrade) but just so I don't fall too far behind.

We don't even try anymore. We usually get caught up once reruns start, then start scavenging.

Usually I'll just dump a show I think I want to see or share onto DVD-R to free up space.

I have a bunch of suggestions which all look great but in reality I will never get to them.

I try to keep up on weekly series that week.... Movies took awhile when I first got Tivo to catch up on watching and archiving... It is better now

It also seems no good new cable movies for April

Sounds like someone needs to upgrade to more space. You can get an 80G drive for under a hundred dollars and either do it yourself or get a computer-savvy friend to help you.

I have programs on my Tivos that have been marked for deletion for months.

It's the liability of having 3 TiVo's.

That's the problem, my tivo has (2) 120Gb hard drives in it (yielding me 84hrs in best quality). I want to step up and dump a bunch of stuff I got on DVD, but i'm not sure my current pc would be able to handle that, I need to get TivoNet, etc...
Every day I get about 3hrs of programs (that's when no movies are being recorded), but only catch up to half of that when I sit down in front of the TV.

I'm not usually too far behind, but within the last week or so my "Battlestar Galactica" and "Kolchak, the Night Stalker" wishlists grabbed an extra 12 hours of television courtesy of some mini-marathons on SciFi.

I had forgotten how utterly cheesy "Galactica 1980" was... yikes!

I had this problem until I upgraded, since then its been great. I am trying to catch up to some shows though. Some shows i'm like four or five episodes behind. Not to mention all of the TiVo suggestions I have which I never actually seem to have time for, maybe in the rerun season. Aint TiVo just great!!

With 2 80GB drives in my Combo box, I'm about a month behind realtime. I stay current with 24 and Survivor though. Too high a risk of coworkers spoiling them for me.

During rerun season, I modify my Law & Order and Simpsons season passes to get reruns as well as first-run episodes. That keeps my drives busy

You wouldn't believe the stack of Good Eats that I haven't gotten to yet... I seem to keep fairly well on top of everything else, but those just keep on stacking.

That is, of course, until a free preview weekend comes along and I record like 20 hours of movies

I'm way behind on some shows, caught up on others. I haven't watched any Screen Savers from all of 2003, yet i have them all recorded. Like dr_mal i do watch shows that have spoiler type plots, like 24, The Shield, Survivor etc...

I am behind too but am off work all next week. I try to watch my 3 soaps every night when I get home from work. I sleep in so I try to watch Regis & Kelly whenever I get up and maybe one other hour show. I don't stay two far behind. I just got Tivo last Saturday. So I am recording some old shows just to have something to watch while I am off. I love Nick At Nite and TV Land. And the Soap Net Channel has Dynasty and Knots Landing. And for some reason I love Lois & Clark with Dean Cain. Didn't make it a point to tape these on VCR. I also saw a couple movies on that I wanted to record so I have those to watch next week. The Cher Special is on and the Soap Opera Digest Awards so I'll be busy. I don't see how anyone stays caught up. I just got the 80 hour Tivo and usually I delete everything within a couple days usually soaps and regular shows and weekly ones so I let it record in High Quality. I tried Medium and it wasn't so bad.

Ive said this before and I'll say it again. I love Tivo. I recorded so much stuff every day and had a tape in the living room a tape in the bedroom. It was a mess with tapes or something not getting taped. Esepcially with Digital cable the channel had to be on the channel you were recording so I would have to remember to change it during the week for my nightly shows cause my soaps taped in the bedroom. I can't believe I didn't get Tivo sooner. But hopefully next week I can get caught up. Rose

I know I can't actually watch everything I record, and it will get worse as the weather warms up. But I DO look through my recordings and make sure to watch the GOOD stuff, and extend the dates if I need to.

OK..

I have an 80 hour stock Tivo with nothing done to it...

Honestly, I don't even have enough time to watch anythign NEAR what is on my Tivo....

I don't know how peopekl have so much time to have these large drives.. even ANYTHING more than 80 and expect to really watch it all.

take 3 hours a night times 7 nights a week thats 21 hours a week.. then look at how much stuff is on your Tivo and tell me HOW MANY WEEKS it will take to just clear it all without adding anything else???

Mike

The stages of TiVo

Stage 1 : Record everything - watch everything (try to)

Stage 2: Setup TiVo to record only what you think you will watch in an attempt to recover your life

Stage 3: Number of Season Passes increases again beyond your ability to watch so you either return to stage 2 or...

Stage 4: Max out your TiVo to do list so it's recording all the time and you have a massive list of stuff to watch - watch almost nothing being happy that you have a choice!

The hard drive upgrade can happen at almost any point, but most often happens in a Stage 1 or Stage 4 TiVo user.

Anyone want to expand or correct this theory of mine?

Andrew

As for 80 hour TiVos and not being able to watch that much, I personally record everything at best on my 127 hour TiVo which comes out to about 35 hours
