Cnet has a review of 6 PVRs on their site

They rated the Pioneer DVR-810H the best and the standalone 40 hour tivo and replay tied behind the second placed Philips. What do you guys think? Do you agree with these rankings?

They got it about right with the caveat that the 810H should be used in High or Fine modes which means you need to get stuff onto DVDs fast to avoid running out of space...or buy a much bigger HD.

I love it.
I use it ALL the time. (Unless I'm using my SA80 or SA120 or SA40.)
I don't have ANY of the problems mentioned in this Forum.

Wonder why they included the Dish Network PVR, but left DTiVos out? IMO DTiVo would have swept the field: perfect PQ, dual tuners, and generally lower costs, to name a few advantages. From reviews like this (including one recently published in the NY Times), one would never know DTiVos existed.

they have the wierdness of the second place finisher being an 'upgrade' to the 99$ DTiVo.

"The Philips DSR708's built-in TiVo-powered dual-tuner DVR is an ideal upgrade for any DirecTV subscriber"

wonder why you would want to upgrade ? seems like they are only reviewing units you buy at retail outlets. Too bad DirectTV does not advertise at their site

TTiVoToGo FAQ, I have never seen a company so bashed in a forum becasue its software is a little late

  • TiVo series 2/HMO 40 hours unmodded - so far
  • Toshiba SD H400 for 99$
  • JavaHMO/ paid for my HMO whiner
  • AVcast to broadcast TiVo/DVD/PC throughout house and playfort
  • 5 at a time NetFlix subscription
