Tivo not booting after I installed serial ppp - PLEASE HELP!
Hi.. hopefully someone can help me with this. I'm a relative tivo/linux newbie, so please bear with me
I tried to set up my tivo to update over the serial port using the documentation in the Hack FAQ and the TiVo Updating Over Dedicated Internet HOWTO at http://www.pineaus.com/HOWTO/Tivo-DSL-HOWTO.html.
I was able to log into my tivo over the serial port using a null-modem cable with the "factory" password and was able to get a bash prompt. Then I started tivosh and made the changes to the three files per the FAQ:
/etc/ppp-options.cua3
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
/etc/rc.d/rc.remote-login
I then tried to reboot my tivo and now it won't boot up. It gets to the tivo man with the "your recorder is starting up" screen and sits there for about four seconds and then flashes a purpleish screen for about two seconds and then goes back to the tivo man screen and keeps repeating this, never proceding any further.
To fix this, I tried to log in via the bash prompt, but was not able to obtain one. So I tried to go in through the factory password bit again and pressed b to boot and it says the following:
Loading boot image from partition 6
2145
Loaded successfully ...
Entry point at 0x80010000 ...
IDEprom: jump to boot_entry (0x80010000)
Boot jump to 0x80010000, params=root=dev/hda7
It gets stuck on that line and stays there (over 1/2 hour so far.. I don't think it's ever going to move on).
I have backup copies of all of the files I changed, but I need to get to a bash prompt to put them back.
Does any one have an idea of how to fix this?
Thanks so much for the help!
