Talking Controlling TiVo via Palm Pilot

Ran across the link on the TiVo site about controlling the TiVo via Pronto.

It occurred to me that doing it via a Palm Pilot would also be a "cute techie thing" to do. There's no specific app for the PalmOS that I could find, but there is an app out there that could be customized to do this..

The app is called Omniremote - and you can use it to program your TV, your VCR, pretty much anything that uses a remote control. I haven't personally tested it yet, but I would assume you could program the thing to learn the TiVo remote. I'd be curious to know if anyone's done this yet.

Anyway, here's the home page for the software: http://www.pacificneotek.com/

Cool

I searched the old forum for Omniremote, and found 4 threads, but this was the only one where people reported success and failures: http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum8/HTML/003331.html

OmniRemote is not as customizable as a Pronto, but it does indeed work. I have a couple of Palm Pilots running it. What is cool, is that not only can you control your TiVo, TV, etc. but you can still use the other apps (i.e. look up a phone number). Some users have said that the rannge was limited, but I have used it as far as 14 feet without problem.

Talking

My range with OmniRemote on a Palm III was very limited (Around 5 feet). I have heard that there is an IR extender (hardware) that will allow an increased range.
