Question First setup call problem after Drive A copy

I backed up a virgin 14 hr and restored the backup to my new 60Gb drive to test the backup. After modifying runideturbo, I booted Tivo and started setup. At the first call (3 min call), my Tivo never succeeds the download portion (getting local numbers). It fails everytime. Phone test was successful.

So I put the original A drive back in and ran setup. Same problem, phone disconnects during download phase and Tivo fails again.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Happens all the time. That first call is difficult and it has nothing to do with the monkeying around that you did. It sounds more like you got a machine with version 1.2 software on it.

1.2 appears to have some poor "Winmodem" code in it. If you can get through the setup procedure and then download 1.3, the problems with calls should go away. Keep trying.

If all else fails, take your TiVo to the house of a friend, preferably one who lives very close to the phone company exchange building. Run setup from there. It will probably work the first try.

I don't recall the sequence, but I believe you are getting to the point where you get to add a dialing prefix. Find out a local number for your area and enter that entire number in as a prefix.

Would any of these help:
Quincy: 6172490571
Boston: 6175315304
Cambridge: 6175881641
Newton: 6178310579
Boston: 6179274200
Brookline: 6179920579
Boston: 6175870901
Quincy: 6172492138
Boston: 6175319002
Cambridge: 6176790500

Btw, it's a Boston area issue.

Thanks for the tips. Funny though, this is my second Tivo and I have digital phone service (MediaOne, now AT&T broadband). I had no problems with the first Tivo before 1.3 came out. I'll keep trying or else bring it to work.

Will Tivo update to 1.3 on the first program data call or sometime later? What have other folks found when they purchased 1.2 machines.

The new 14hr Tivo (v1.2) + 60GB I did today took 2 tries to get connected the first time. I forced it to call in 2 more times after the setup to get 1.3.
