Question Swapping 20hr Drive A w/ 60hr Drive A... Will It Work??

Wondering if I can quickly upgrade my 'old' Tivo with my new Tivo. Have a HDR212 20HR Tivo (unblessed so far) and just bought a 60HR Panasonic Tivo for my grandfather.

Can I take a backup copy of Drive A from the 60HR unit and run it in the 20hr unit as Drive A? Has anyone done this before?

I notice the Hack FAQ said it is possible to swap the 20hr Drive A with a 30hr Drive A before planning to bless the unit... wondering if there is any issues I missed from the other postings.

Thanks in advance.

Sid The Kid.... aka PartyPhil

I believe that all the 60hr units out there now are two drive units -- meaning that you'd have to use backups of both drives from the 60hr.

(Am I right, or did they start shipping one drive 60hrs when I wasn't looking? )

Exclamation

Excuse me? Panasonic? (they make showstoppers.)

Never exchange software (drives) between different hardware and never revert a tivo to software older than it's factory installation.

Both are Panasonic Units... have not booted up the 60hr unit yet, but I am guessing they are the same software version due to their manufacturing date.

Is it fair / safe to say that all 60hr Panasonic Tivo systems (non-DirectTV models) are with two-drives? (Haven't broken the seal yet on the 60hr unit... would hate to be disappointed... hoping for a 1 unit drive.)

Thanks in advance. Sid The Kid (aka PartyPhil)

No. It's not fair/safe to say that. Panasonic does not make TiVos.
Check again. It's either a Panasonic Showstopper or a PHILIPS TiVo.

Just to make the point clearer - Panasonic models use the competing ReplayTV system, not TiVo.

Hi Sid. It is flattering that people are coming to know PVR's as Tivos (something like corn flakes is to cereals, but despite the similarities a Panasonic Showstopper is NOT a Tivo. Go to this web site to get info on how to hack your Panasonic Showstopper.

My Bad... I ment to say Philips.... not Panasonic. I guess the HDR 212 model info should of been a hint to my typo. Let me re-phrase my question:

Both are Philips Units... have not booted up the 60hr unit yet, but I am guessing they are the same software version due to their manufacturing date.
Is it fair / safe to say that all 60hr Philips Tivo systems (non-DirectTV models) are with two-drives? (Haven't broken the seal yet on the 60hr unit... would hate to be disappointed... hoping for a 1 unit drive.)

There has yet to be a confirmed single-drive 60 hr unit that wasn't a manufacturing error (i.e. the drives were never married).

TiVos aren't swingers. Every marriage is monogamous. The only exception is cloning, and that just results in serial monogamy.
