Unhappy !!! Upgraded DirecTivo shows only 35Hours

I upgraded from the Quantum 40GB to a WD 100GB. It works but under system information, it only shows 35 hours of recording time. Any ideas?

So you replaced the original drive with a bigger one? Or did you add a second drive?

Hmm. Did you use Tivomad to expand the backup image? Read Hinsdale's instructions here: http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/ and see if you missed anything.

Could it be the command inputed?

Could it possibly because of the "sync" in the command?

dd conv=noerror,sync if=/dev/hdc of=/dev/hdb bs=32k

I don't think so .. all the DD command does is make an exact copy of the TiVo HDD.

What did TiVomad say when it finished?

I remember it saying output=input. I remember making sure that the numbers matched up as stated in the instructions.

AH HA! I think I see your problem ..

The DD command is a Linux copy command. NOT TivoMad.

You are only half-way through the complete instructions. You definitely have a working copy now (as it works) .. but you must now run TivoMad 4.0 (it is on the CD you made) .. look at the Hinsdale. TiVoMad will expand the drive to take advantage of the rest of your drive.

Oops!

I re-read the instructions and realized the I didn't follow through with the command:

maddtb4/setupcd.sh

Do you know if it would work if I took the drive and run the "maddtb4/setupcd.sh" command after it has been operational in my DirecTivo?

"Inactive kernel partition" error

1) I plugged my drive back into the PC.
2) Boot using CD
3) Use the default boot parameter <enter> because I have a non-Quantum drive
4) ran maddtb4/setupcd.sh
5) Answered:
a. Tivo A -- hdc
b. Two Drives -- n
c. >140GB -- n

Then it has the following message:
This process is going to overwrite the data in your inactive kiernel and root partitions. If you want to keep the data in these partitions, then reply 'n' to the following question and backup your data. The script has determined the following :-

Inactive kernel partition = 'dev/hdc6'
Inactive kernel partition = 'dev/hdc7'

I now have all the information I need.
Do you want to continue [y,n] ?

When I type 'y', it ask for me to "Please insert disk 2 into your floppy drive and press enter ->

Please advise

It was a jumper issue

I changed the jumper on the Western Digital from Master/Single to the Master with Slave. That allowed the expansion to finish... Thanks for all your help.

Now on to make my DirecTivo in my bedroom more quiet...

Duke
